Being stuck in traffic is one of the things people hate the most. Waking up early, rushing to prepare your needs and then just getting stuck in traffic can really ruin everyone’s mood. It’s not just because of the time that has been wasted that brings us frustration and stress, it also makes us less productive and affects our overall well-being. The time we spend stuck in traffic could be better used in our schoolwork, working task of our job, and spending time with our loved ones.
Traffic takes place for its numerous causes such as the occurrence of accidents, overpopulated vehicles, infrastructure problems, and busy days. We sometimes encounter road accidents as it is unexpected to happen and there are many reckless drivers out there affecting the highway space leading to traffic. Moreover, the production and use of many vehicles contribute to traffic when an area is densely populated for instance in the Philippines. According to Worldometer, there are approximately 118 million individuals in the Philippines, and most of them utilize a combination of various vehicles like jeepneys, taxis, private cars, buses, tricycles, and more because it is for the people’s needs and convenient use. There are also times when infrastructures near the road are under construction and experience problems. This may also lead to traffic due to the lack of alternative routes, inadequate road capacity, and poorly designed intersections.
Furthermore, the given cause of traffic has also an adverse effect to the society. Even though accidents are one of the causes of traffic, this situation can also lead to more accidents by reason of slower reaction times, and the potential for rear-end collisions. Also, drivers with high tempers can aggressively harm their co-drivers as they are frustrated waiting for the traffic to clear out. Exposure to traffic can also lead to health risks because of vehicle pollutants. In addition, people experience delays in terms of their work or even school because of traffic. The transportation of goods and services can also be affected as well during traffic situations leading to delays and disruptions in sending the products in a specific schedule.
Getting stuck in traffic is indeed frustrating; how we react to it is within our control. By maintaining a positive mindset, practicing patience, and driving safely, we can make our commutes more bearable and contribute to safer roads for everyone. So, next time you find yourself stuck in traffic, remember to stay calm, stay in your lane, and make the most of the situation by being entertained by some music or a podcast that can soothe your mind while waiting to move in traffic.
